Pabst Blue Ribbon Cake

So the big 3-0 is coming up for me later this month. My Wifey threw me an amazing surprise party this weekend with Friends and Family. Nothing better than enjoying some wings and beers with those you love...except maybe this 2 foot tall PBR can cake my wife made me...

Fastfood Flowchart

A few weeks ago we posted the beer flowchart which took the guesswork out of selecting your beverages of adult variety. I wasn't sure where this originally came from but it looks like it might have been from Top Cultured.

Pretty funny site to look around. Their latest flowchart takes a look at fast food products and I must say it is pretty comprehensive but they are missing 5 guys which is like the In n' Out of the East coast.

Innagural Book Pub Meeting

The first meeting of the "Book Pub" will be held tonight in Southington, CT.

This is basically a book club for guys who are sick and tired of their wives getting a night out just for reading a book.

All books have manly appeal (no Oprah book club books here!) Our first novel is "The Zombie Survival Guide" by Max Brooks. Which is literally a book about surviving Zombie attacks. From practical advice about which weapons are the best and how to handle being stuck in mall, jail, house, etc. this is must have knowledge for all guys.

Probably most important and pertinent to this site is that enjoying a nice beer is paramount to a good book pub session.

We'll keep you posted on how things go tonight and possible post some discussion questions (and suggested beer pairings) in case you want to start your OWN Book pub.

1888 Bock

I'm here living the dream in Detroit Rock City for a business meeting. Luckily at our catered open bar (don't be too jealous of our chicken tenders, spring rolls, and assorted cheese platter) they have a beer I've never heard of before...Leinenkugel!

They had a Wheat, a Red Lager and a 1888 Bock. I went Bock...and it was good. I'm not sure on the price since work was picking up the tab but the flavor was very full.

It was much smoother than I expected for a bock beer. I would definitely Leinenkugel again!

Name: 1888 Bock
Brewery: Leinenkugel
Website: http://www.leinie.com/
Genre: Bock
Alcohol: 5.1%
Price: Unknown (OPEN BAR!) out of 100
Poundability: 60 out of 100

Messiah Bold

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I saw this 6er a few weeks ago when I picked up my logs for Christmas and I HAD to have it. Messiah Bold from Schmaltz Brewery is it's name, full of chutzpah is it's game. The brewery itself has a great story which you can read more of HERE.

I was kind of afraid it would just be an impulse buy with a funny name but this was a stellar brew. I'm a big fan of other "Nut Brown Ales" like Newcastle and this beer really delivers excellent full flavor with a very smooth flow...made me want to yell "L'chaim!"

My wife even thought it was quit "yummy." We also got a kick that it was brewed in my parents home town of Saratoga Springs, NY.

I'll definitely be a repeat customer of this He'Brew!

Name: Messiah Bold
Brewery: Schmaltz Brewery
Website: http://www.shmaltz.com/
Genre: Ale
Alcohol: Estimated 6.0% (Unlisted)
Price: 70 out of 100
Poundability: 70 out of 100
Taste: 92 out of 100

Dirty Penny Ale

This fine brew from Olde Burnside Brewery here in lovely Connecticut has been a staple on tap in my basement bar since we christened it 3 years ago. It is a black and tan in a can (or log in this case.) They mix 60% of their Ten Penny Ale with 40% of their stout and BAM! Dirty Penny Ale.

The price is great for the quality beer you get. The 40% stout puts a serious hampering on your Poundability but the taste is out of this world. If you dig on stouts you will LOVE this.

This maybe kinda cheating since this beer is not truly available in six packs (only growlers and kegs) but here goes...

Name: Dirty Penny Ale
Brewery: Olde Burnside Brewery
Website: http://www.oldeburnsidebrewing.com/ourbrews.html
Genre: Ale
Alcohol: 5.7%
Price: 65 out of 100
Poundability: 22 out of 100
Taste: 82 out of 100
